Long-Term Disability Insurance
Below is the Long-Term Disability benefit offered to those who work 16 or more hours per week for a congregation, district office, or camp. This plan is available without underwriting during your initial eligibility period. If you work for a denominational agency or other employer, contact your human resources manager to find out if your employer offers this plan.
- The plan pays 66 2/3 percent of your salary, up to $5,000 a month, reduced by Social Security or other group disability benefits.
- Payments begin after 90 days of continuous disability.
- Catastrophic Disability Benefit is included in this plan.
- If you are disabled for five years and have the loss of two or more “activities of daily living” or cognitive impairment, the plan will pay an additional benefit of up to $5,000 a month for a maximum of five years.
- Payments continue to age 65 for people disabled before age 60.
- Payments continue for at least five years, or until age 70, for those disabled after age 60.
- Benefits will not be paid for a total disability caused by or resulting from a pre-existing condition unless you have been actively at work for one full day following the end of 12 consecutive months from the date you became fully insured.

Voluntary Short-Term Disability Insurance
Short-Term Disability covers most of the gap between the onset of disability and the start of Long-Term Disability coverage. This plan is available without underwriting during your initial eligibility period. 2021 Budget Worksheet: Short-Term Disability
- The plan pays 60 percent of your weekly salary, up to $1,250 per week.
- Payments begin after a 14-day waiting period for illness or injury.
- The plan has a maximum benefit of up to 11 weeks.
- Maternity benefits are included in the plan.
- 3/12 pre-existing period: Any sickness or injury for which you received medical treatment, consultation, care, or services — including diagnostic procedures — or took prescribed drugs or medicines to treat during the three months immediately prior to your effective date of insurance is not covered for the first 12 months the policy is in effect.
